Message from the President

The 54th President Mr. Michinobu Sugata

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok (JCC) is currently one of the largest Japanese chambers of commerce abroad consisting of 1,762 member companies. Since its establishment in 1954, the JCC has actively engaged in not only the projects contributing to the economic development in Thailand such as investment environment improvement and promotion of trade but also the social contribution activities for the Thai people such as education supports for over half a century.

The JCC will deploy activities this year focusing on three pillars as follows while continuing to work on our initiatives so far.

The first pillar is ‘improving the business environment by delivering our expectations’. As you are aware, the Thai government has been putting up new policies under the policy “Thailand 4.0” aiming for upgrading and enhancing the high added value for industries. We will seek to contribute to the further improvement of the business environment and creation of business opportunities for the Japanese companies in Thailand by reflecting our expectations in these new policies, which would eventually lead to the development of the Thai economy as well.

The second pillar is the ‘acceleration of connecting various platforms by digital technology’. We believe that it’s the key for upgrading industries how digital technologies will be adopted into the value chain of business, taking notice of the concept of the society where all the things are digitally connected, the so-called ‘Connected Industries’. More than 5,000 Japanese companies have come to Thailand and many engage in production activities in cooperation with, especially the manufacturing industry. Therefore, these ‘Connected Industries” will become more and more essential when it comes to the real-time visualization of information, flexibility and reduction of lead time. This year, using this ‘Connected Industries’ as one of the keywords, we would like to think about new technology that will be introduced in the near future and our business reform through holding seminars etc.

Thirdly, the JCC will continuously pay attention to the policy of ‘Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)’. With the establishment of the EEC Act in February this year, the Thai government has shifted from the vision phase to the action phase. To support these policies to be implemented effectively and steadily, we will address activities to contribute to the development of Thai economy by hearing the voices of 278 JCC member companies in three EEC provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong.

Other than those above, the JCC will actively carry on not only holding casual exchanges for members such as ‘networking lunches’ but also putting efforts in social activities to return the favor to the Thai society by scholarship programs and support activities for people with disabilities.

Obviously these activities are made possible thanks to the cooperation by each of the member companies. Should you have any questions or concerns in your business, please contact us and provide your comments, suggestions and requests to us through our divisions, committees, various researches and secretariat.

We would appreciate your continuous support, cooperation and active participation in our activities.
